Harold Lingo Goodwin, 82, of Stockbridge, passed away on Jan. 2, 2011. He was the son of the late Willis Peek and Kathryn ( Lingo ) Goodwin, and was born Aug. 3, 1928 in Atlanta. He was also preceeded in death by his son, Gary Goodwin, brother, Mack Goodwin, and sister, Patricia Holloway. Mr. Goodwin was a member of Stockbridge Masonic Lodge #691 for 60 years. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Jo Austin Goodwin; daughters and sons-in-law, Gaye and Jimmy Payne, Amy and Gary Middlebrooks, Jan and Larry Brown; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Kathy Goodwin; grandchildren, Jennifer Payne (Alden) Morrison, Jessica Payne (Sam) Brannen, Andy Goodwin, Melissa Middlebrooks (Jimmy) Bradberry, Jamie Brown, Charles Brown, J.W. Goodwin, Haley Goodwin, Katie Goodwin; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Brannen, Caleb Goodwin, Anthony Lane, Lucas Bradberry, Colton Brown and Will Goodwin. Colonel Billy R Lingo (USAF Ret), born January 7, 1930, passed away peacefully Monday, June 12, 2017. Billy grew up in Sweeny, TX, then joined the Army with the allied troops in Germany, 1948. He served in the 15th Constabulary Squadron patrolling the Czech border. There he met and married his beloved wife of 65 years, Rosie. He brought his new bride home to Sweeny, and eventually he joined the U.S. Air Force at Ellington Field. He continued to serve proudly at every level from squadron to major command. His final posting was at the Pentagon, where he retired, concluding a long and distinguished career with the Department of Defense Reserve Policy Board. He loved his country, the military and those with whom he so proudly served. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph Lingo Sr. and Gladys Hutchins Lingo , and his brother Joe Lingo Jr. He is survived by his loving wife, Rosie, sons Dennis and Alan Lingo , sisters Betty Bruce and Donna Lindsey, five grandchildren, Dan, Tabetha, Rachel, Jackie and Anthony, and three great-granddaughters, Madison, Julia and Peyton, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. The family wish to thank the many friends and family who have loved and honored Billy through the years. You know who you are. A private memorial service will be held for family and friends. William Thomp-son Lingo , 92, of Marietta and formerly of Brunswick died Thursday.
Mr. Lingo served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years, a Pearl Harbor survivor stationed onboard the U.S.S. Conyham. He also fought in the Battle of Midway.
After he retired, Mr. Lingo retired to Brunswick and worked in the water purification plant at Glynco for 20 years. He was also a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivor Association.
A graveside service will full military honors will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park in Marietta with the Rev. Ken Williams officiating.
Mr. Lingo was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Lingo ; and a daughter, Janet Lingo .He is survived by a daughter, Betty Anne Sinnott of Marietta; a son, William D. Lingo of Los Angeles; two grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
