A small notice on page 4 of the Daily Advocate, Victoria, Texas, Wed Feb 2, 1898:
WANTED — Everybody to know that J. A. Lingo, at Victoria Bicycle Shop, does all kinds of repairing. Prices reasonable. Satisfaction guaranteed. Opposite Times office.
The Dec 30, 1914 issue of that paper had a nice article on the 17th anniversary of entering business in Victoria. On the same page as that article, the following advertisement appeared:
This 17th Anniversary indicates that the business started near the time of the birth of Roy in October of 1898.
